Garage Door Maintenance
Back To Our ServicesOpener Testing
There are two tests the garage door opener requires. The safety sensors should be properly cleaned and aligned before testing. When the door is open, a light solid object is set in front of one of them. When the door starts to close, it must reverse immediately. If it doesn’t, the sensors should be fixed or replaced. The reversal mechanism and force are tested with the help of an object which is set on the path of the door, but does not block the sensors. When the door is closing, it should touch the object gently and start going up. If it hits the object, the force should be readjusted. If the opener requires repair, it should not be delayed.
Preventive Repair and Replacement
It is best if garage door maintenance begins with inspection. Each component is prone to specific types of damage as well as to wearing. Tracks and hinges may bend while lift cables can have tiny cuts that make them likely to snap. Torsion springs are highly resistant to damage, but may have deformed coils. Extension springs may over-stretch the coils and stop working. The opener’s hardware requires careful inspection too. The trolley and chain should be checked for extensive wearing. The track should be perfectly straight. Steel panels should be checked for rust and wood ones - for decay. If any component is damaged, it should be fixed. If the damage is beyond repair or there is great wearing, the part has to be replaced immediately.
